Interactive workshop sessions, providing you with the knowledge, and inspiration to look after yourself nutritionally, and help you to make lifestyle changes to achieve your own health goals.

Nutrition Awareness

Course overview

This course is recommended for anyone involved in the preparation and provision of food.

Course aim

The course is designed to provide knowledge and understanding of the problems associated with the nutritional status of those living in care, and aims to provide knowledge of how to meet their nutrient requirements, in line with the requirements set out by the Care Quality Commission.

Duration

The content of this course will be covered in a ½ day session of 3 hours.

Course content and objectives

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:-

  • Define nutrition and discuss the importance of a nutritionally balanced diet and its impact on physical and mental health.
  • Identify the major food groups and the essential nutrients and state their role in the body and their role in maintaining good health.
  • Evaluate the problems affecting the nutritional status of target group, and describe the nutrient recommendations for this group (as set out in government guidelines).
  • State how to ensure nutrient requirements are met, and what constitutes a balanced diet.
  • Discuss the catering requirements, to include label reading and procurement guidelines.
  • Plan suitable menu plans.

Course delivery

The content of the course will be delivered using a variety of interactive teaching and learning methods to ensure maximum retention of information and enjoyment of the learning experience.

Delivery:

This course is delivered over 10 weeks (five fortnightly sessions). The first session takes place over a day and the following sessions will each be three hours.

Date: The next course will start on 21st June 2016

Cost: day 1 £70.00 and thereafter £45.00 per three hour session
